This week’s film is The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
One thing about this movie is you will never be bored. The premise of the film was two drag queens named Tick and Adam and a transgender woman named Bernadette headed across Austrailia in a bus. They stop to do shows at several stops, mouthing songs and dancing. Their bus is a lavender beauty, named Priscilla.
They meet new people along the way, including groups of people who are not accepting. These people vandalize Priscilla with homophobic slurs. They do make friends though.
When Priscilla breaks down, a mechanic named Bob joins on their ride after his wife leaves him.
THey end up at a casino in Alice Springs, run by Marion, who happens to be Tick’s thought to be estranged wife. However, they are actually still married and have a son together. The child completely accepts his father’s gay and drag life.
They finally end up at Alice Springs. When their contract is over, Adam, Tick, and his son Benjamin travelback. However, Bernadette and Bob decide to stay back at the casino.
In this film, the bus is a big part, as they ride on it throughout the whole movie. The characters are also very flamboyant and each personality sticks out distinctly. It was a little slow at times, but always picked up quickly.
